Sudan’s paramilitary the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been accused of committing atrocities in Darfur, says it has now agreed to a humanitarian truce.
The pause was proposed in September by a group known as the Quad – that’s made up of the US, Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The proposal includes a three-month humanitarian pause followed by a permanent ceasefire and a nine-month transition to civilian rule.
More than a week ago, the RSF seized el-Fasher, the army’s last stronghold in Darfur.
Accounts of mass killings, rape, torture and humiliation have since been reported by those who escaped.
Al Jazeera’s Hiba Morgan has more from Khartoum, Sudan.
Khalid Mishain is a spokesman for the Youth Citizen Observers Network, an organization that monitors the human rights and humanitarian situation in Sudan.
