There’s an unusual by-election taking place in Clacton in the UK next week. It’s unusual because Nigel Farage, the Reform UK MP who sits there, has triggered the contest himself.
It’s also unusual because it will be the longest ballot paper in by-election history, with 34 candidates registered. However, all the major political parties – Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the Conservatives and the Greens – have decided not to take part, as the FT’s @lucysfisher explains in the latest episode of Political Fix.
