Loma Los Colorados has taken Santiago’s waste for three decades, with unseparated organics generating methane.
The UN Environment Programme’s satellite data ranks it top among 50 man-made sources, emitting 106,000 tonnes a year from rubbish delivered by 60% of the capital’s nearly 8 million residents.
