Iran-US nuclear talks face hurdles despite Lebanon ceasefire optimism

A ceasefire in Lebanon may help ease tensions between Iran and the United States, but analysts say it is unlikely to resolve deeper disagreements over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Barbara Slavin, a Distinguished Fellow at the Stimson Center in Washington, DC, says the truce could improve the atmosphere for diplomacy but is “necessary, not sufficient” for a breakthrough. Key disputes remain over uranium enrichment, sanctions relief, and the future of Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Meanwhile, Abbas Aslani, a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Middle East Strategic Studies in Tehran, says shifting demands from Washington and internal pressures in Iran are complicating negotiations. While some progress has been made, both sides remain far apart on critical issues.
