Iran’s attacks on Gulf neighbours causing ‘anger, disappointment’ : Analysis

Khaled Batarfi, a Saudi Arabia-based political analyst, says Iran’s attacks on its neighbours across the Gulf have left people “angry and disappointed and shocked”.

“We tried our best in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region and all the cool heads in the region tried to stop this from happening,” he said, noting that Iran had previously relied on Gulf states, including Oman, to convey messages to the United States and help with negotiations.

Batarfi questioned why Iran appeared to be directing more attacks at its neighbours than at Israel or the US, suggesting this may partly be linked to assassinations that took place on the first day of the war.

“All the cool heads, all the intelligent people in Iran are now underground, and that’s what’s happening when the Revolutionary Guards are taking over, because they don’t think, they just push the buttons,” he added.
