Dr Ezz Lulu, president of the Samir Foundation, began his medical career as a student during Israel’s war on Gaza and quickly learned the grisly reality of treating the countless wounded. “I went to al-Shifa Hospital knowing the scale of the catastrophe was more than the medical teams could handle. I left my family behind because I knew Gaza needed every spare pair of hands it could get,” Lulu told Al Jazeera. “Nothing in medical school could prepare me for these scenarios. I wasn’t even a graduate yet.”
