US President Donald Trump welcomes BBC bosses’ resignations | BBC News

The BBC’s director general Tim Davie and CEO of News Deborah Turness have resigned, following criticism that a Panorama documentary misled viewers when editing a speech by US President Donald Trump.

The Telegraph newspaper published details of a leaked internal BBC memo which suggested the BBC’s Panorama programme edited two parts of the US president’s speech together so he appeared to explicitly encourage the Capitol Hill riots of January 2021.

UK political leaders expressed hope the resignations would lead to change, while Trump welcomed the decision in a statement on his Truth social platform.
